Question Collecting Wild Trees In California?

Hi,

Not sure if this is the correct place to be posting this question or not...

I am curious if anyone knows what the laws are regarding collecting "wild trees" in California. Do you need a permit? Are there special areas where this is allowed?

Any information anyone has would be great.

Hi there, The moderator of this forum could tell you what you need to know. He lives in the area you live in. Send treebay a personel message, and ask which would be the best club to join for field trips. Most areas in Calif. are illegal to collect on. It takes an act of Congress to get a permit. Some of the clubs have permission to collect trees on private property and those clubs offer field trips as a club function. I live in the Fresno area, and collect with Harry Hirao. I should be getting an "invite" soon come to think of it.....

Hope this helps, Bonsai-al

Bonsai-al,

Thanks for the info...I kinda thought that might be the case here in California.

I think I might contact the Midori Bonsai Club in San Jose...they talk about going in to the Santa Cruz mountains on collecting trips...sounds like that may be my best bet.
