Yep

Yes I know it will take a bit longer but there is a hell of alot of room in that pot and very little roots at the moment and the hot house should help power it along. Te pot is about 30 cm tall and about 70cm long and 50cm deep.

If I were you I would put it in the ground, or big pot at least, and feed it like mad to get some nice branch structure. As you have it now it will take you at least twice as long to acheive the branch structure I'm sure you want for such a nice trunk.

Best regards,
Ryan

JB: I feel like your messing with it too much for a newly collected tree; October of 2006? You need to let it grow and push new growth...why trim it back already? You have a huge trunk and the branches will need to grow out 3 feet to maybe even 6 feet; then you cut back hard - because by then the branch has some thickness.....then you build the tree around those select branches...good luck....tom

Did that !! the branching was about 1.2 m long and it is anbout to go into dormancy for the winter. I can not fit a humongous tree in the hothouse, so I had to cut it back a but. The hot house should hopefully extend the growing season

Thanks JB, I recognised the leaves on the first pic immediately! One of the olive collecting spots I scouted out also has dozens of these, it's near Littlehampton in the Adelaide Hills - 5 mins or less from the Mount Barker exit. I knew it had to be some common English deciduous thing I didn't know the name of, hawthorn fits my hunches nicely! (And I have had a customer asking me where to find hawthorn, hmm, I will have some available soon, lol) Would it be OK to collect them now, or better to wait until spring?

Hi JB,

I really like this hawthorn and think it has great potential. I did a virtual of one possiblility for the tree.

All the best,

Aaron

New Hawthorns

Here are two more new aquisitions for my collection from my latest digs with more to come over the next couple of months. One will end up as a single tree and I think the other will be a twin trunk arrangement once all the mud etc is removed to show off the root spread and base...not sure time will tell.....Oh the earlier big one is going well in the pot and putting on a lot more leaf.
