bonsaiTALK Hint: Did you know you can double click any bonsai term on this page for its definition?

Re: Collected azaleas and rhododendrons

Finally, the other two trees. This one is the smallest; I'm not quite sure what to do with it, but I'll let it grow for a while and hope for inspiration. (Yes, I should have cleaned up the pot after putting in that kanuma!)

Re: Collected azaleas and rhododendrons

(Oh - I forgot to indicate size: the pot in the picture about is about a foot long)

--

This one was not doing so well when I pulled it out of the ground. Few leaves, and it had a really weak rootball - almost completely rotted out due to the thick clay that had never been removed. Unsurprisingly, the leaves that I left on have wilted pretty badly. We'll see if it recovers...

Re: Collected azaleas and rhododendrons

Again I forgot a height! The tree in the picture above is about 24" tall.

And that's it for the collected azaleas and rhododendrons. As a number of people have pointed out, the rhodys don't reduce well, so the larger of those may end up being a container tree instead of a bonsai. The smaller rhody seems to be a variety with quite small leaves, and I think I can do something with it as a roughly 3' tall bonsai.

Thanks for all the feedback!

-Old Mister

Can we get an update on these?

I have an old rhododendron in my garden which might be very nice...

Here's an update. I'm afraid I've sort of lost interest in using these trees for bonsai, but they will make nice container plants, I suppose.

I've posted the first and third pictured to a thread that dealt with those specifically: http://forum.bonsaitalk.com/showthr...06&pagenumber=2

Best regards,
Carl

As expected, tree #5 of 6 below didn't make it.

Here's #6 of 6.

Best regards,
Carl
