Attention Any South Carolina Bonsai-ists
Ok, I've been trying and trying to find who to contact on collecting trees here in the upstate. Tried SCDOT and the State Forestry. I'm not having any luck. As of right now there are 2 pines in Spartanburg county I am wanting to dig up. They are just off an exit ramp that leads to an interstate. This area is mowed and maintained by SCDOT. Matter of fact earlier this yr they cut down alot of 6'+ pines but leaving those 3' and shorter. I am looking for contact info to see about collecting these and possibly others whether it be state, county, city property. I thank all those in advance.

Hey, just go out and dig it.
Then you can let us know what color uniform, hat and types of patches and badges the arresting officer wore. Just kidding, don't have a clue as to who would control this in SC. If you find out let me know, John

John that first line sounds like my mom...seriously. I asked her and she said "go dig em up". I then asked "well what do I tell the officer or officers that show up"? Her reply to that was "tell em your ma said ya could". I don't think that'd go over too well LOL.
It is frustrating to find some good yamadori and can't collect them. And there is not much worth digging around here(our property and the surrounding area). I guess I could do a Tom(tachigi) and visit the trees and secretively sink a shovel into the ground around them at each visit. So that all I'd have to do is yank and run Course Tom hasn't gotten to the yank and run part yet(that I know of).If I hear somethin I'll pass it on.

i was just on a road trip and saw hundreds if not thousands of perfect (i saw them from a moving car) bonsai material. i would just go and dig them up. i plan on getting a bonsai forest started from them. and besides, if an officer does pull up and talk to you, i would just explain what you are doing and if he doesnt appreciate bonsai's just offer to go replant them.
