This is plain stupid. Remember the original yahoo.com, circa 1994, back when it was yahoo.stanford.edu? It was a collection of links, organized by topics. It revolutionized the way we approach the internet. Was that plagiarism too? I think you should check a dictionary before throwing these sorts of libelous slurs around. -Carl |

"The time has come" the Walrus said, "To talk of many things: of shoes-and ships-and sealing wax- of cabbages-and kings- and why the sea is boiling hot- and whether pigs have wings." (from 'The Walrus and the Carpenter') It is important we understand the diversity of views and the interpretation of same when we debate and that we respect each other. However there must come a time when someone makes a decision as to the path we take. This particular thread like many others has become un-productive and superlative to the aims of this forum which renders it in the negative. Upwards and onwards must be our battle cry from now on to keep our little differences minimalistic. Supression/ censorship on the other hand cannot be carte blanche as the site owner defines otherwise free thinking is lost and the purpose diminished. Therefore a balance must be sought. Perhaps periodic voting may be the answer. When the majority get really aggro with the direction/tone they vote it off. Could this be the future of Bonsai Talk? My wish is that we strive to find a common ground for our site before we lose all credibility in our Bonsai community. My Kindest Thoughts Ash

Ash, you're right. Unproductive. Instead of taking the large view, people are once again throwing stones and words.
It's a fine line between discussion and chaos, and drawing that line is always difficult. If anyone has anything further productive to add, please do so, but if not, let's let this one die. What's productive? A new idea, perhaps, or a good suggestion. Otherwise, leave it be. Joanie

let's face it
This is a personal thing. It's not the information being posted that has so many upset. It is the source. And the motive(real or imagined) for the postings.I don't think i'm saying anything out of line nor anything that most in here don't already realise.
I posted a rather long(for me) response yesterday and it was deleted(perhaps rightly so).In order to avoid being deleted again(i hope)..and because i said I would not comment about any one person(hoping i said"by name" ) I will refrain from mentioning names.I would suggest that everyone reread the threads in here about how information is accepted and absorbed differently by different people.Whether the people who "know everything there is to know about bonsai" wish to acknowledge it or not.....personal knowledge, experience,RESULTS and a modicom of humility work wonders in having your ideas accepted. In general...imho...multiple postings of what you have read,or what someone has told you,or what has always been done,or "everything there is to know on the internet" will tend to put people off,and not be listened to by people who have a bit of experience and knowledge of their own. Wes(Redpine) had a great suggestion on another thread....just call it "all there is to know about bonsai" and make it one thread.Any additions could be made as edits.Or,as Matt started ..make it part of the wiki. The information provided in these "everything" posts may be valuable to som,a curiousity to others.I spent the first 25-30 years of my bonsai life reading books and later on internet articles. It was a good foundation, but, in the end....asking questions and discussing trees with real people, knowledgeable people with some experience and successful bonsai is way more beneficial. That is what this forum is about to me. respectfully andy |

As I've not read this entire thread, ( and from what I've seen on this and the first page don't care to) I can't comment on exatly what was said.
However, form the perspective of the new guy. These have given me an easy way to find the information I've looked for, with out having to spend time digging and searching for it. I've found that having this info bundled into a neet little package gives me the opportunity to brows the info quickly, and choose what is or what is not the proper for me. What is the difference if I do a search and find said info, or if Will and others have taken the time to compile it for me? (not to say that I don't dig for more, but it gives me a quick start) As for the catchy title whats the big deal? Its a title, it catches attention. Does anyone realy think that anyone takes these titles as gospel? That we are so nieve to think that these threads contain "the meaning of life"? I just don't understand why grown up boys and girls can't play nice and stop attacking oneanother on this forum. I don't know what has started these rivalries, and don't care to. The senceless bickering between a couple of individuals has killed more than one, otherwise informative discussion. Just my perspective. ![]()

Thank you for pointing this out, I am sure many have seen it, many have mentioned it to me in private conversation, but you had the guts to say it. Will Last edited by Will_Heath : 24-Sep-2005 at 01:18 PM. |

Folks,
The Motive is probably very noble. But ... As a person who has been away for a bit, when you come back and see a zillion posts With the title "All there iis to know..." and all Authored by the same human bean, I thought that bean had lost it at first. Pootsie was joking about clearing up the title- (more descriptive), but he is on the right track. Maybe this is all moot, eh, but hey moot is what I do best.

Well this heated (somewhat meaningless) debate has been put to rest. A percentage of the "all there is to know" threads have been closed and moved to the Wiki, Matt has revamped our own links page here at a convenient time and I have compiled another venue for the "All there is to know" idea here.
"There are never problems, only solutions...." "Anybody can tell you what the problems are, I want to talk to the person who has the solutions." It's all good, Will Heath |
