Yes, the phrase, "If you say so" was removed because it was complete nonsense. If anyone has anything useful to contribute please feel free to do so. If a post is trolling, argumentative or simply static, there is a very good chance it will be removed.

Regards,

Matt

I don't think it's either funny or strange, but it is true. Yes, in the last couple of weeks some of Ron's post were made after Will's and they were troll bait. In most cases both the bait and the response were removed. It's tiresome and it's easier to clear the chum from the water than deal with the sharks when they circle.

Matt

"By your own words Brian, we would have to question even your post. Remember that even this forum we use is part of the internet, yet amazingly, we all still manage to learn here - Will"

Please, always question my posts.

Matt,

It's disconcerting when things disappear without comment. If there's a reason you want to delete posts, I have no problem with that....I just think it would be helpful to say why you delete them. I'm not sure Ron has been trolling more than Will has at times, but that's your call, not mine.

Brian

May I respectfully ask that the posts here not linking to Penjing sites, articles, and such be moved to the "All there is to know" discussion thread?

I think leaving these threads clean without such discussion will make them easier to use by those who enjoy them.

Hummm... thats not what was said a few weeks ago when I suggested we not mess up a very nice thread about a nice display bonsai. Some said that they had every right to post as they pleased whether it had anything to do with the thread or not?

Now when it is your thread, you want to make up a whole new set of rules.

I know, I know it's not the same thing. I've heard it a million times.

At least I have said my peace.

Why not just make one big post, "Everything there is to know about bonsai", and just put a link to this web site. That oughta about cover it.

Hi Brian, you're right, it's my call and I see no reason to offer any explanation to the general forum membership for moderating the discussions here. You yourself have had posts removed (for good reason) and there is no reason for me to point out to everyone and their brother that you were misbehaving.

Regards,

Matt

Absolutely brilliant idea this way the forum can have a reference library for all to enjoy. No discussion necessary just peruse. All future additions go into a holding area for Will to accept or reject. Will can be appointed Keeper of the records in this thread. We could end up having the best library of any forum in bonsai circles. It would have the potential also to minimise frustration for newbies trying to extract information from existing members or at least give them a step forward before asking. Neat move Will. Kind Regards Ash

Hard to swallow

The part of all this info that I find hard to accept is calling it "All there is to know." It's a misrepresentation of facts at best.

Especially to those who are new to bonsai. Any writings such as articles and books while they may contain vast knowledge in some cases are still mostly someones opinion.
Even combined are hardly "All there is to know"

A renaming of this thread should be considered.

I know, I know it's not the same thing. I've heard it a million times.

Yet, you still compare apples to oranges.

The thread you are talking about was a display of yours that you posted on a public forum where you got upset because some of us actually critiqued it. It in fact, had everything to do with the thread. As I said there, if you just want to admire your trees or displays without suggestions and/or comments, printing a picture and hanging it on your wall is the best way to go.

I really don't understand the animosity with these "All there is to know" threads. People have always given links to people who are searching for answers, this way we can give many links at once with a simple click. I feel these resources are valuable and worthy of the effort it took to compile them. In fact, they really are no different than the bookmarks we all have in our browsers, just easier to share.

My comment about keeping these threads clean had the sole purpose of saving people who will use them from having to sort through pages of drivel and other unrelated nonsense to find the links contained here. This is why the discussion thread for these links was created. On the other hand, when viewing posts of trees or display, critiques are to be expected and I feel they actually add to the thread as we can see how others feel about the display or bonsai presented.

Although the forum here is intensive and the best on the web, many of the links in the "All there is to know" threads come from elsewhere. This is one of the many advantages of these threads, they encompass many forms, many sites.

I have a vast library of bonsai related books and magazines, many contain info on one subject or another that I would call outdated or false, nothing is perfect.

If there is something that you feel is left out of any of these threads, by all means, link to it. Instead of vaguely suggesting that they are lacking in some ways, how about adding anything that you feel is missing? If you can't find a link, write an article and I'll link to it.

Again, unlike books, this is an ever growing knowledge base of information, constantly updated and revised, in that sense, they are "All there is to know"
(at the moment)

Perhaps we could retitle all of them:
"A small collection of possibly helpful links which may contain some misinformation and which have not been peer-reviewed, but are at least a good starting point for the beginner to learn a little about [penjing or repotting or soil, etc.]"

Sorry for disrupting, but I wanted to keep the theads clean. Please continue your debate here.

in moderation,
pootsie
