"Bonsai are not forever"

I was over on the IBC gallery and came across this thread by Reiner Goebel. For those not familiar with him, he is from Toronto Canada and is extremely knowledgeable and has many trees to admire. His ability is well known and his wit is as well.

He started the thread in July of 06 and it is still active from time to time. One of the things I feel he was trying to bring out is that everyone loses trees. The trees he had lost over the previous winter (05/06) were to my mind amazing. He had/has no idea as to why they died, there were 5 in all if I remember correctly. He had them in his cold frame with many other trees that did not show any ill affects.

I will quote a couple of lines from Reiner (July 12, 2006) in this thread that I feel are extremely relevant to all. He was responding to another poster who states, you must be sad.
Of course, if I had my rathers, I would prefer these trees to be alive. I spent considerable effort to get them to a state of maturity, but that effort was enjoyment, not work. While they were alive, they gave me a lot of pleasure. For that I am grateful.

But I have other trees that will occupy me and give me equal pleasure. So, while I sincerely appreciate all your expressions of commiseration, don't cry for me.
I felt that a posting like this would be useful to show that bonsai die, even after many years of successful cultivation. It's not something to lose sleep over or give up bonsai for.

I hope this is read and understood by those who have had losses and feel they can not go on......

my two cents (with the help of words by Reiner Goebel)
