G'day Folks,

Having seen all your wonderful spaces let me show you what must be the smallest bonsai garden ever. My balcony is four floors up in a five floor building, the floors immediately below me are all under sea level, so if Holland gets flooded then my trees will be safe....HO!

These are my outside trees, inside I have [just a moment I'll go count] 52 trees about a quarter of which are miniature.

In two weeks time I add to the collection, a Mugo yamadori which I bought a year ago, the seller/collector wouldn't allow me to take my tree until it had survived with her for a whole year, and apparently it has thrived, can't wait....tough!

So hope you enjoy these pics....there are three.

Gotta go resize the pics.

Nigel

Pretty amazing, Nigel! Thanks for sharing the pictures. Having spent the better part of three years trying to grow bonsai on an Atlanta apartment balcony, I really appreciate the difficulties of working with a growing space such as yours. I have to say, I'm tremendously impressed that you are able to keep so many plants in such a small space in what appears to be, from the photos, a great state of heath!

Best regards,
Carl

Thank you Carl for that observation, it's a need's must situation and the extremely strong support that I get from my partner.

I fear that if, IF, I/we ever have the luck to find a place with a garden [housing problems in Holland [really tiny country] are very grim indeed] been a'hunt'n for years, that my choicest of styles will rapidly change from that of the literati to the more luxurious raging windswept efforts.

Nigel:
Having spent some wonderful times in your lovely country, I also applaud you for the amazing amount of trees you have accumulated in such a small area. I guess it is an inherent trait of Netherlanders to pack as much as possible into a small space. Do you find watering to be a hassel; and what about pinching and pruning

I thought I was crowded on my deck!!!

Here's my mokey pole section this morning.

For the benches I use concrete blocks and decking boards - cheap, sturdy, pressure treated and groved to allow water run-off.

For the poles I use salvaged railway sleepers - cheap, sturdy and covered in years of tar, with deck tiles bolted to the tops - cheap and pressure treated!

Fish.
