A good thread Paul .. lots of variation in benches from the basic to the ornate ..
myself, I have worked with a couple ideas .. using 2x4 frames/legs and covering with either fencing 3"x5" X 4' or galvanized metal 1"x1" ( these tend to sag toward the center unless many cross supports are used).. but it has always come back to 2x4 frames or 2x6 for larger trees, and either 5/4 decking boards or 2x6's for the bench top.
.. 'ere's some pics .. the metal hardware cloth first..

occasionally I am able to recyle old pressure treated lumber from jobs and benches take a beefy look .. 4x4 legs 2x8 or 2x10 frames with 2x6's as bench tops
.. a 4x4 post with cedar on top ( in foreground)

ok last one...

an overview of the nursery ..
not all the trees make it off the ground (on wood planks)

the benches in the greenhouse are framing with 5/4 decking
these do well .. hope you enjoyed ..

Tom....

Your place looks great....looks pretty secluded as well.

I am gonna try to sneak some pics of my friends set up in the next few days....I think that you all will enjoy them as well. Very inexpensive too!

Thanks again for all the replies.....

Paul

Somewhere in this post I showed pictures of my "tree House". The stair set up borrowed from Vance Wood.

Here is what my, ah er "our" living room looked like before I started in to the addiction, originally taken in 1997.

We had a deck which I had enclosed to be come the "Tree House". the door at the extreme right of this picture is the entrance to the deck.
