Trident maple acting odd.

I have a 15 year old trident maple that is wintering in an odd way. This year its leaves did not change color and drop as they usualy do, instead most of the leaves turned brown and shriveld but stayed on the plant. After about 2 months the leaves fell off the tree leaving a handfull of still green leaves on the tree. The branches are all green and healthy looking, it is not reciveing to much water and I have done nothing this year that I did not do in previous years. Could this be due to a relativly warm winter this year? Please help I am baffled.
Thanks in advance

Re: Trident maple acting odd.

Hi Trident,

A warm winter can cause deciduous trees to react a little strangely. It would probably be best to pull those few remaining leaves and expect the tree to leaf out again normally when warmer weather comes.

BTW, those leaves appear to resemble mountain maple a little. It's hard to tell from the photo. Do they have three distinct lobes or 5-7?

Regards,

Matt
