is tree ok?

i have a blue moss cypress and on the needles look like they have a clump of dirt on some of then like a big patch. on my juniper the tip of the needles are turning drown can someone tell me what is going on?

I wonder if we are talking about two trees or one.

A picture will be very helpful. *I have seen ants bring soil up and pack it into the branches of trees sometimes. *That's about the only thing I can relate to your description.

The tips of juniper foliage will brown if they are cut. *Any time the scale-like foliage is cut it will brown. *So we cut back to a branch or twig, or pluck and pinch the foliage back.

Browning tips can be a sign of overwatering too. *There is more info in the ***watering_faq***
