Sickly Japanese Red Pine

As you can see below, my Japnese Red Pine that I purchased earlier this year isnt doing so well right now. I am completely stumped as to what caused it. The soil drains excellently. I think its too late for this little guy because as you can see, winter is just starting to being here in California. And since this little guy is probably about to go dormant, I have no clue as to what to do. Do you think I can save this guy? Would superthrive work in a time like this?

Before(when I first bought the tree)

Usually - it's root problems from the soil staying too wet for too long. Pines need to dry out a just a little between waterings.

Regards,

Matt

Check the roots and cut back to any that are still healthy. Re plant in sand and water sparingly with a Superthrive solution.

This has worked for me on deciduous trees during the growing season, so I'm not sure how your pine will take to it during the winter.
