Save The Mallsai!

I'm a victim. I'm new to the art of Bonsai, and I picked up a Mallsai - before I knew what a Mallsai was. It's of the Juniper variety . . . It's been living outside, it's been fertilized, and its watered on a regular basis (from the bottom). Slowly, but surely the little guy is slipping away. I've only had the tree for a little over a week. Please help me save my tree!!

THANK YOU!

Take a few deep breaths. It's okay, you're not alone.

Now first, stop fertilizing.

Next, is there a bunch of glued-on gravel on top of the soil surface?

Is there a price tag covering the drainage hole?

Did it come with a spill tray?

Regards,

Matt

THANKS MATT!!!!!!

Okay Fertilizing stopped.

Rocks on top yes - will remove.

Drainage hole clear.

No spill tray.

Now what? I really want the little guy to live long and prosper.

Cheers,
Stormey

Now you'll need to read the bonsaiTALK FAQ section on watering. Be careful because the plants need to be CHECKED regularly but only watered as needed. Watering regularly is a good way to get into problems.

Also, keep it off the hot pavement and away from reflected heat (like asphalt, concrete, masonry). Full sun is okay for juniper in most areas but diffuse light ("open shade") is usually more forgiving for a broader variety of plants, conditions and mistakes.

Regards,

Matt
