please help with my trident maple and bloodgood maple

I have two major problems. i have a trident maple and bloodgood maple that i collected. I root pruned and chopped the top, styled, and planted it in a pot. this is in southern california so it is hot right now the leaves had started wilting and getting brown the BG is crispy on the tips so i decided to defoliate both. this is all with in a week and i need some help on what to do because i am inexperienced with maples. but i have read all the guidelines for what i should on the internet but it doesn't seem to help.

Mine tend to do that when exposed to a lot of hot, direct sunlight all day. Once I moved them to a spot where they got morning sun and afternoon shade they responded quite well. They also don't react well to wind in the winter, either.

Get them into the shade, out of direct sun and they should be fine.
Summer here in Michigan can get very hot and I water my Tridents every day.

Good luck, Hector

Big Smile Little tip

I haven’t been doing bonsai for that long but from what I have read you should reframe from repotting and cutting back on deciduas trees when it’s hot as they will bleed more / sap.

Also when you repot when it’s hot you are putting the tree under more stress wait till its winter time.

You should keep the water up to it and keep an eye on how much sunlight it has not to much but not to little
hope I was some help
Dean

yea you probably shouldnt be doing all that so soon with the trees just being collected, the should have had time to readjust to their new environment. Plus you styled them already too, Which probably wasnt the greatest idea.

I would let them get sun from dawn until about 11-11:30 then put them under shade where they will get a little light but not a whole lot. And keep them watered. and do this everyday is what i would do. and dont skip any days, It may be crucial to their health as they are already under Loads of stress!
