Pink Flowering Serissa needs help
I'm so glad I found this site. I got tired of reading FAQ's that werent down to the right detail. So hopefully someone can help me out here. I recently bought a "Pink Flowering Serissa Foetida." I have been adding water when needed. But today I realized that if I brush my fingers across it (gently) many leaves fall to the ground...
None of the leaves have turned yellow or brown and the tree seems to be healthy from the eye. But i dont think the falling of the leaves is very healthy. Any help would be appreciated! |

If a serissa gets too wet, or too dry, or too little light, or too cold, it reacts pretty much the same way. A picture would be a help. But do be sure you aren't overwatering
Regards, Matt

Yeah, i think the lighting its getting isnt very good. I have it by a window in my room that isnt very good lighting. and bought a 20 watt bulb "mini compact fluorescent colormax" that i dont think is doing me any better. My brother got a kyoto serissa and it had a problem of some leaves turning yellow and falling off; he put it in a bright window sill area, and I think I will do that same. Im being pretty good about the watering I think, im touching the soil and if its dry on top ill water it. I would also like to start spraying the foilage; heard serissa's like that.
Thanks for the help. Ive learned many things looking around on this forum and Ive only beeing a member for about an hour. |

Ive moved it to a better window like i said i would. Leaves are still falling off hear and there, but not as much, I think its rebounding
)... I found a spot for it I think... I think a reason for this also might have been just getting here and being shocked when it got out of the box, i ordered from bonsaiboy.com and its getting comfy now I hope.

YOU CAN NOT RUSH TIME

OK this is a topic I have some knowledge about... Serissa Foetida are wonderful trees (to some). They react to anything...any change what so ever, in the same way.. they drop their leaves. If you just received this tree, be prepared for this event. My Serissa drops it's leaves when:
1-I bring it outside for the season (spring) 2-I bring it inside for the season (fall) 3-Slighty overwater 4- Slighty underwater 5- If I'm responsible for the sun not coming out for a couple of days it.... you get the idea There is a group of us who belong to the IHSFC......better known as the I Hate Serissa Fan Club, so the bottom line is, you may have done something wrong, or the tree may be in distress or it may be just trying to show you who is in charge....it IS the tree! 2 cents from an IHSFC member Jay

Appreciate it Jay. The sun hasnt come completely in a few days. Just been overcast & cloudy. Getting used to watering it etc.
I noticed you said taking outside in the spring. Should I take it outside during spring and through summer? Theyre labeled as "indoor" bonsai. Hmmm. This site has helped SOOO much. thanks again.

Regarding the indoor/outdoor thing.
There is no such thing as an indoor tree or plant. There are only trees and plants that tolerate being indoors. All trees and plants prefer being outside with the correct mixture of sun and shade and correct humidity and temperature. As to where this tree should go, read and decide yourself.... it is a long way till spring Jay
