Over-fed, over-watered, or other?

I have had this japanese maple for a few months now, and the growth on the plant has been great. new very small leaves and good delicate branches. But now, the tips of the newest leaves and some of teh veterns are browning and curling. I believe that I have been overwatering it, either that or it was from an overfeeding about a month ago. I put the fertilizer on, the reread the directions (DER!) and I put it on at about 150% strenght. I poured a bunch of water through the soil hoping to clear out some of the fert.

The tree is on my balcony ( OOoohhh maybe too hot? but the nursery had it out in the sun. Much hotter then my balcony).

Re: Over-fed, over-watered, or other?

I hope you meant 50% not 150%?

What kind of fertilizer did you use, and how much?

Many of the general purpose fertilizers' appliation rates are for plants in the ground. So you need to be very careful.

Regards,

Matt

I hope you didn't do what i did with my Acer Pal. (see image on the left) .... overfeeding! It killed a lot of leaves on the left part of the tree. It's recovering now, but this will take a while.

Re: Over-fed, over-watered, or other?

I meant 150% I added too much fert. for the amount of water. I suppose it actually isn't 150%. I was supposed to add 3 times more water, or 1/3rd less fert. Either way you look at it.
And come to find out, I have been watering the tree every 3 days, my GF has been watering ALL of my trees DAILY. I didn't know she was watering them. That isn't a problem now.

There are no more leaves browning, but the old ones are still on there, so i am guessing the damage wasn't taht severe.

Thanks guys.
