Olive Tree

I live in southern N.Y. (Long Island), and have started having trouble with an olive tree I
recently (3 months ago) aquired from a very reputable dealer.
It is in an East facing window with grow lights about 4 feet above it. Some of the smaller leaves
of the plant have started to turn yellow and curl.
I tried watering it with some Super Thrive added, but as of yet there is no change. This tree is apparently a slow grower, but I am very concerned that these first signs spell trouble.
Has anyone come across this problem?
ANY help is appreciated.

Re: Olive Tree

Olive is evergreen but it still sheds leaves. The life of a leaf is about a year.

Are the yellow leaves located at the branch tip, or farther back on the branches and trunk?

Re: Olive Tree

They are at the ends, and are beginning to turn to brown. What do you think?

Re: Olive Tree

Brown tips are not good. I would get it outside at the first opportunity (after frost season).

Root rot can also cause browning of the tips. Maybe the dealer has an opinion?

And I think 4' is about 2' to far. The light intensity falls off as the square of distance. Take a look at some of the growlight arrangements you'll see on the bottom pages of the forum here. The lights are right on top of the plants.

Regards,

Matt

Re: Olive Tree

Good suggestion. I can raise the plant closer to the lights, shouldn't be a problem.
Any watering suggestions? I mist twice a day, water it about once a week, depending upon soil.
Should I repot this spring? I do not know when it was done last, I haven't had the plant that long.
