My dying bonsai

I have a Juniper (i think) and it was doing really well when I first purchased it. It had a nice plumpy green look to it. Then disaster striked. I went on vacation for two weeks. I told my friend to take care of it...she forgot. Ever since then my bonsai has been doing really bad. Now it's dried and spiky. It's not green anymore. The soil is dried too and looks frosty on top. Everyone is telling me to get rid of it.......but I feel I need to ask an expert if there is anything else that I can do to nurse it back to health?

Re: My dying bonsai

Hi Jas,
It doesn't sound good. How long has it been since you've been back?

Try soaking it in water for 1 hour. When the soil completely dries, it needs soaking to get moisture back into the root ball. Top watering probably won't do it.

If it'd been a few weeks and a juniper is looking dry and crispy and the foliage falls off when you touch it, well, that's it!

Please don't feel too bad. This kind of thing happens. Bonsai should never be allowed to dry out. Juniper is tougher than most plants, but it isn't quite a cactus.

Regards,

Matt
