well you just purchased the tree and maybe it has spent time in a green house. The conditions that you have it in now are probly not like it was use to. so thats why its loosing the leaves. It may need sometime to get use to the the change in the conditions.

Where is it located and how frequently are you watering?

I have it in direct sunlight for most of the day and then for a couple hours in indirect...i usually water in the morning when the soil is dry and then a little bit in the evening when it becomes more dried out...my first hunch was overwatering, but i have another elm that i was taking care of the same that was doing fine...however it did rain the other day...i dunno, i just hope things turn out!

the same thing is happening to my chinese elm, which was in a greenhouse before i bought it, and is now outside in the shade, but i'm almost positive it's because i've been overwatering it. maybe cut back on watering?
