Hello all.
I am ashamed to post this but will anyway. I was attempting to grow moss in a matter as described in the following thread from gardenweb -
http://forums.gardenweb.com/forums/...5144511000.html. I tried this on one of my nicer ficus... spread the moss spores and covered with a layer of yogurt, then moistened that down with a spray bottle and covered it with a plastic dome. I came back a day later to find a solid layer of mold over the entire surface of the pot where I had covered the area with yogurt.
I have since removed the plastic humidity dome and sprayed the mold trying to break the surface with water spray (it almost seemed like a glaze or hazy glass on the surface of the pot... water wouldn't really penetrate).
So - my questions are - will the mold suffocate my tree? Have I done irreversible damage? Should I do an emergency re-pot (last repotted late last summer)? Should I scrape the crap off the surface of the soil?
My assumption is that now that it is uncovered the mold should die... but is the yogurt layer going to suffocate or damage my tree's roots?
Please advise!
