kyohime Maple in trouble?

I have a beautiful kyohime maple that I bought from a bonsai nursary over a year ago now, maybe even two, time flies when your having fun!. when I bought the tree the nursary repotted it for me, and I haven't really touched it since. Just maintained it - watering and feeding etc.

What should I do about dead buds that have been caught out by late frosts, I think I have managed to lose two branches due to a late frost!!!, plus other small branches connected to healthier branches, do I have to leave the buds as they are, or will removing them save the branches?

Of course I would like to save the branches as they make up part of the shape of the tree. If anyone can help i would be grateful. This tree seems to be going down hill slowly. It's early June and i was wondering if anyone could help so I can improve the tree before it gets too bad.

Gratefull for any comments...
