I Bought A Bonsai From Home Depot...
It's the most charming bonsai I've ever seen. It has two root-like truncks supporting it as legs and a little pot belly. I have no idea what kind of bonsai it is, as the tag only says "bonsai." Well, duh. It says to water it once a week.
My dilema is that I took it to work and two of it's leaves have turned yellow. I am concerned that it may not be getting enough light. Should I take it hope now and put it in a window? My desk gets a little sunlight but not direct. Or is it possibly still upset about it's ride in the car? I am clueless. Please advise. Also, an idea on what kind of Bonsai it is would be very helpful. It's leaves are just regular eye-shaped leaves. |

Amethyst,
first, your new 'bonsai' proberly has glued on rocks, remove these as they are preventing water and air from getting to the roots, not to mention that you can not tell how dry the soil is. Watering once a week are bad directions, you water when the plant needs it and this you can tell by checking the soil with your finger for dampness. Can you post a picture of your new 'bonsai"? this will help us identify it and give you more detailed advice on caring for it. |

I am sure that if you asked Home Depo ( just a guess) for help they would be more than happy to help you, They do sell a lot of these kinds of bonsai and I am sure that they would not sell anything that that weren't thoroughly proficient with.
That is what they say in their adds anyway ) |

I am willing to bet your new bonsai is a Ficus. Better yet, a "ginseng" ficus. Ficus leaves will turn yellow and drop leaves when their environments are changed. I would not overwater or give it to much TLC, just give it some time and it should come around with some new foliage. If indeed this is a ficus. If not....and it is dead....then Home Depot will exchange or return your money. Do a search on ficus and compare the pictures to truly ID yours...if you could post one here and others will ID it for you. Good luck.
Paul

Amethyst,
Could it be one of these? Don't consider the pot as they freely interchange them. regards, lm |
