Help my Juniper please!
Hi
I recevied a Juinper at Christmas, it has been growing really well until about 4 weeks ago when it started to go brown. I had been keeping it indoors unitl a few weeks ago, it is now outside where it gets afternoon sun. I water once a day, sometimes twice a day. I was advised to to spray the the tree once a week which I do. I have trimed back some of the dead leaves and there seems to be some new growth. Could you please advise if there is anything else I should be doing, am I doing anything wrong. Is it OK to leave outside over night, it can get quite cold overnight (0-8 degrees C) Can this tree recover, any other help/comments would be appreciated. Melanie |

hey mel 1st thing is juniper and inside do not go together, 2nd they dont mind the cold at all. depending on the size of your pot would vary the amount of sun and water. i find my junis in smaller pots do well morning sun till 1or 2. water once a day in summer rarely twice and less when weather milder.
if you could post up a pic. there could be so much more we could tell you. now go on dont be shy.

Think the most important mistake is watering. The soil type used can make it worse. Generally people overwater, but it all depends on your tree and soil. Can't tell without more information or pictures.
Also junipers take a while to show the effects of weakening. So even though it shows problems now, could have been a problem since you got it. |

Ditto on the pic..they would help...maybe(most likely) over watering, maybe insects, spider mites love junipers.
Give us some pics. of the juniper too! LOL

Is there a bonsai club in or near Brisbane? That's your best bet. We're all certainly willing to help as much as we can, but someone nearby could examine it "in person." They would also be familiar with your local conditions, and how best to grow junipers in them.

Thanks for the advice. I think going on what you have all said, I have made the mistake of keeping it inside for too long and I think overwatering may have been a problem as well. I have attached some pictures in it current state. The green follage on the top has come out over the last week or so. Is there hope of the rest of it or is it too late to save.

Cut back on the watering. It's too much at this point. I suspect the tree will be dead soon from the looks of it. Give it morning sun, not afternoon.

it was very close, the fact that you have new shoots on top the tree is not dead but could take a long time to grow branches again. just keep nuturing it.
