help can it be saved?

hey i got a Ficus tree ( i think) on valentines day. it was doing really well until i tried to feed it! i watered it first so not to burn the roots and followed the instructions. Now the leaves are still all green but they have compleatly dried up and if you touch them they fall off. what can i do and have i compleatly killed it?? It stays inside and is near a window so should have plenty of light as its a skylight. i was wondering if it got too hot?? i live in wales so although we dont have the hottest weather when the sun comes round in the afternoon straight through the window its boiling as its an attick flat.
Also on the soil there seems to have been white mold/moss all of a sudden growing but it also has new green shoots coming out of it,
im compleatly new to this so any help would be fab

cheers pixie xxx

chances are it wasn't your feeding it. Have you changes the watering of it? remember: only water when soil is dry. Also, what kind of soil do you have? When you water does the water get absorbed easily or does it stay on top for a while and slowly go down?

Let me know!

its the soil it came in is all i know. when i water it the water seems to mostly go through quite quickly . when i got it it came with some wtaering instructions saying to water it wait until the water is absorbed and do the same again twice, so i have been doing that every other day unless its really dry and then everyday. xx

just so you know the leaves arent falling off at all anymore they are just all shrivelled and dry. it started about a week ago and when i saw them shriveled and falling off i started watering it more. the leaves never went yellow though they just sort of dreid up.

Pixie,

It sounds like your tree's roots rotted. Ficus like to get a bit dry between waterings. Watering every day, or even every other day, is probably too much, unless it is in a VERY free draining soil in a mame sized pot. I water my larger trees about once a week, and the ones in 3, 4, & 5 inch pots get watered every three days or so. Even my smallest pot, a 2 incher, doesn't get watered every day, unless my A/C or heater is going full blast.

Regards,
John

EDIT Sorry, I just noticed your post claiming that it is a serissa. I have no experience with this species, so I am not sure if my reasoning holds true.

Do you have any spots for this outside? It might like that better. This could also be a soil problem. Just because the tree is in cirrent bad shape that doesnt definitely mean it needs more water. Continue watering as normal, and try putting it outside (you dont want to over-water it.)
