Gingko in need of help?
Hey everyone!
I just got home from class and I was looking at my plants, when I noticed that the new growth and leaves on my gingko were wilting. The first thing I did was check the soil;.... moist, really in no need of a watering. The new stems and leaves are still fleshy, but the leaves seem to be folding in on themselves. I repotted a week ago. Has anybody had this problem with wilting leaves/stems? Could there be a problem with the roots? Does this just happen normally, maybe from stress or an environmental condition? Last night it looked fine; I have no idea what has happened. The past week its been about 75 degerees avg., but the last two days its dropped to about 45 or 50 high avg, could this be of any fault? Thanks for any help!

Thank you by the way!
I didn't prune that much at all. I think I found the problem though. I have it in about a one gallon pot, and I think it was a drainage problem. I had the tree in two pots actually, the first was turned so that the drainage holes were not exposed to the outside. I had a problem with mice digging into my plants; now mice can't get in, but water can't get out!! But I've never had a problem with this before. If the tree had too much water would it stop taking in water to the point of dieing? I guess thats called drowning! I now have the two pots separated and the tree is out of direct light, and I've tried to loosen the soil to get the excess water out. What are the chances of this tree pulling through? It's a fairly young tree (five years at the most). Has anybody had a problem with wilting, and would it come back after a shock like this? I guess I can only wait!

well, for the time being the tree seems to be doing ok. The new stems and leaves have perked back up. It seems the problem was with drainage; now I just have to make sure this doesn't happen again!

It's great that you can answer your ownd questions
![]() I had a similar problem last fall when I repotted my ginkgo, but that was out of season and because when I moved the tree needed to come with me and a root had grown through the drainage hole and into the ground. |
