Hi Lara,
Have you tried scratching a little of the bark off on a branch and the trunk of the tree to see if its still green in the cambium? That will be the first thing to do to determine if the tree is still alive of not. All the best, Aaron

Fukien tea trees are prone to almost every insect infestation imaginable. Scale and aphids being 2 of the worst. Ironically, Fukiens are also very fussy when it comes to pesticides. So you would have to use a very low toxicity pesticide. I would inspect the tree. If there are brownish or white oval bumps on the branches that can be squished, that is scale. I lost a beautiful mame fukien tea a couple of years back due to scale insects.
