I have a fukien tea tree that i purchased at a bonsai show at the chicago botanic gardens this past summer. it did GREAT during that season. But now it's about 50-60 degrees outside. so i keep it inside. I water it regularly (not too much of course), but i keep it in my bathroom so when people shower, the humidity helps it out. but what i noticed is that the leaves are falling. is it dying?? last year my bonsai died during winter. (my mom kept it on the floor next to a window where all the cool air can come in ..
)i don't want to make the same mistake again this winter.. can someone please advise me on how to take care of my bonsai? i live in chicago and mother nature gets moody here. please help!! please tell me that my bonsai isn't dying..is there a reason why the leaves are falling? is it because of the temperature? thank you! ![]() |

Hi Georgette,
I'm guessing your bathroom doesn't have huge picture windows with daylight streaming in?** Most trees don't like a big change in environment, so that might ahve something to do with it, too. Welcome to bonsaiTALK and please post a picture of your tree, if you have one. Regards, Matt P.S **If so, I understand why you didn't post your location ![]()

help is available
If you live in the chicago area there is a bonsai nursery that offers classes - you may want to consider checking them out.
Most likely your tree is not getting enough light. You will probably need to provide supplimental lighting. - bob

Fukien Tea sometimes drop leaves as new ones appear, and sometimes drop a bunch in response to changing condidtions (like being moved inside). So leaf loss is not necessarily a problem, unless we're talking MASSIVE leaf-loss.
Give it more light!!! The humidity in the bathroom is not as necessary as good light. It would be happier if it were in a dry room and well-lit than in a damp cave with no light. rotsaruck pootsie |
