Dying tree. Need help.

I purchased a seven year old Blue Moss Cypress in early April and now it appears to have died. It held up pretty nicely through April but during May it's appearance and health just deteriorated and now the foliage is either brown or dark green, hard and falls off to the touch. During May the weather was pretty crummy, lots of rain and hardly any sun. But I still watered when needed and when the sun was out I let the tree get an adequate amount of light, but nothing seemed to help it improve.

Are there any suggestions on what to do to help it improve if it still has any life left, or any ideas of what might have happened?

Bolo:

Sorry to say, but from your description it sounds as though your tree is beyond rescue. When the foliage goes crunchy, it's been dead for some time. It retains a little green color after it is dead, just to mess with us.

But don't give up. Dead trees are the price of learning in bonsai.

try try again

with sympathy.

Thats what I feared. It just surprised me that it would have died in such a short time. I'll probably pick up another one, since the Blue Moss tree really looked nice.

I have a living reminder that all a tree wants to do is survive.

It is a small chinese elm that I thought was dead, but after 3 months in a large box it has greened up again and if it wasn't for the slugs it would be as good as new.
Any of my trees that 'die' get put into the biggest area I can provide and left for at least 6 months before they are declared dead.
