Dying Juniper

Hi,
I was given a bonsai for valentines day about a month ago. It is a Juniper Procumbens "Nana". When it arrived it was very green and the leaves/pine needles were moist to the touch and felt very healthy. I kept it indoors like the directions said and surrounded with an evaporating tray and water to keep it moist along with watering when it appeared dry. After a month the tree seemed to be quite healthy. Now that the weather has been nicer, i moved closer to an open window to give it more sunlight and wind, letting it awake from its dormancy period which it supposedly arrived in. When I did that, in about a day, it became extremely dry and rigid. Now its a veyr dry tree and slowly turning brown. How can I fix this tree or how can I help save it? Thanks, I am dire straits here with this little guy.

It would be very unlikely that a juniper went from green & moist to brown and dry in a day. Juniper tends to stay green for quite awhile after the roots are actually dead - like a cut christmas tree will stay green for a month.

It is very difficult for some to keep juniper alive indoors. It really likes sun. Also it can be hard for a beginner to water a bonsai properly. If you have a photo you could post that, but from the description it does not sound promising. Check out the mallsai and ideas about Watering.

Don't give up, we all lose trees. You'll do better next time!

Regards,

Matt
