dying fukien
I purchased a Fukien Tea about 8 months ago and it did very well. However about three months ago the leaves turned brown and completly fell off. They haven't grown back since! Help I fon't know what to do. I water every other day, fertilized every two weeks and the tree is by a window. When I first got it, the tree started getting white bugs and I used an insecticidethat may have been to strong. I stopped using it about 5 months ago. I sctatched the bark and it is still green underneath. Also the tree is very wobbly. I would appreciate any help you could give me. This is my first bonsai tree.

Re: dying fukien
Hi Heather,
If you ask us this, months ago in beggining of the infestation, I could suggest you not to use inseticide. Here in Rio we use to catch the parasite manually with a stick with a small ball of cotton at the top, embebed in commercial alcohol. It function well and kills the parasite immediately. Only in high infestations we use something more agresive. I hope I could help you. |

Re: dying fukien
Nice tip Luis...
Heather, now to bring him back to life, try to not feed it... or at least, not so often, because the tree is in the middle of a stressy situation, the fertilizer just makes it worst (or at least is what I think)... don't know, I really preffer to fertilize every 3 weeks... But, obviously it depends on the fertilizing method, rutine, and the fertilizer it self, but well, my advise would be to cut the fertilizer until it recover, but just my 0.02 opinion

Re: dying fukien
Alberto,
You are right, as an addition I would like to suggest to Heather: 1 - Carmona microphylla (Fukien Tea) loves humidity. 2 - It is sick, put it in a more shaded area (if it is not). 3 - As all sick tree, not feed it. Wait to better times. I hope your Carmona feels better. |
