Collected Rosemay losing foliage

Hello everyone.

About 2 weeks ago, I collected two nice looking rosemary bushed from the ground. It was a tough colelction as the ground was hard as rock - I had to pour gallons of water around the plants to get a shovel more than 2 inches into the ground. Once I was able to, though, things went very smoothly, with only a little bit of disturbing of the rootballs.

My reason for posting is this: one of the plants seems to be losing a lot of the leaves - they are turning yellow and sort of dry, and falling off in scary amounts. If I run my fingers along a branch, it takes a lot of these dry leaves with it. I did this and took a picture of how much came off.

Don't get me wrong - there is still a good amount of leaves on the plant. But if this continues, I am not sure how long that will remain true.

The other plant, although it seems a bit more juvineile with quite a bit less overall greenery, has hardly a trace of this behaviour.

I have been keeping both pretty dry as I have read that Rosemary does not like a lot of moisture.

Any advice out there?

Here are the pictures.

This is what it looks like on the branch:

Kylezo, I'm no expert but you may have picked the wrong time of the year lift this plant. I have a large rosemary that has in the past dropped needles for whatever reason (mainly from overwintering it in an attached garage) and it still survived. Once it decided that it was finished I would trim off some of the dead branches and whether by luck or my intuitive skill (most probably the former) the plant would begin a new flush of growth. Anyway, this post is not much help but you have a nice plant to work with and I hope it does ok for you. Give it some time, protect it from too much sun for a bit and see what happens. Bob.

Dear Kylezo

Beautiful big Rosemary.

The Rosemary does not like to be touched a lot
at the roots , also never let it dry out !
They are very sensitive for drought and react
indeed with yellow leaves.

An Italian bonsai-ist told me as a Rosemary gets
yellow leaves in winter , put it indoors on a cool place.
Does it happen in summer , protect from wind and sun.
And keep it slightly moist.
Kind regards
Morea

Well I agree that you picked the wrong time f year to go collecting. For the falling of the leaves there really isnt anything you can do. Dont fertilize water regularly and it should sprout. If all the leaves fall off dont worry just be patient.

Still blooming, and growing. Wonder what I shall do next...I think I'll start light foliage pruning, and leave the roots alone till further down the line.
