canadian hemlock/rejuvination,i hope!

Awhile back this summer my hemlock dropped all its leaves, worrying it was not getting enough water,i think i over watered causing root rot,so i pruned the remaining roots and planted in soil mostly container perlite with some pine bark for good drainage and air.Now im begining to see tiny hairs all over the weeping branches and they are turning green. Is this a good sign of life again,or something this tree would still do even if its just about dead?

Ive had cuttings bud with no roots, when they looked dead, was wondering if this is the same situation,or maybe its starting to respond after a case of root rot.

I would think that the little "hairs" are new leaves. if the tree was going to die, i don't think it would have enough energy or strength to push new growth. i think it is going to be fine. I watch the watering, but always mist my hemlock because the needles can dry out very easily. Good luck with it
