Bouganvillea bonsai dying(dead?)

Help! I got a little bouganvillea bonsai for mother's day last year. It did ok at first, but now all the leaves have come off. Can it survive? I brought it inside because it has gotten too cold for it outside.

Re: Bouganvillea bonsai dying(dead?)

If it gets cold, a bougainvillea may try to behave as a deciduous plant by shedding its leaves.

Frost can kill the entire plant, or parts of it, so it needs to be overwintered with protection from frost.

Chances are good that it is not entirely dead. If it doesn't leaf out in spring you can try scraping the bark near the soil line with a fingernail. If it is green, that's good. If it is brown, that is bad.

Regards,

Matt

Re: Bouganvillea bonsai dying(dead?)

Good news, I hope! The litle tree has a couple of green nodules sprouting on the lower part of the trunk. The branches still look dead, but I have it in a sunny window as much as possible and am hoping it will survive.

Thanks for you advice, Jeanne

my boug.

i've noticed that my boug. has been loosing a few more leaves every time i take a look at it... i was wondering if it could be because of too much or too little water (i know they like it dry)
Where it's stored is just slightly below room temperature, but i wouldn't say it's cold at all. anyone with bougainvillea experience?
Half of the flowers have also fallen.. is this normal for this time of year?

Thanks,
j.g
