bougainvillea with drying branches

I have a bougainvillea bonsai that i received over three weeks ago, a little over two weeks ago it dropped all of it leaves and flowers, now some of the branches are drying up and turing a red color, while some other branches are starting to grow what looks like small new leaves.
Im keeping it outside, in part shade, and only water when its is just a little damp under the surface and dry on top. The pot was cracked a little bit ago, because the tree fell off the table during a storm, but everything remained together, could this have caused it? any advice, how can i revive it?
I have posted a lot in the beginner section under begginner with bougainvillea bonsai if you want more info and pictures, thanks all.

Vette, It is doing what it is suppose to when it enters a new environment. It will drop its leaves, then put on a fresh growth. Leave it be, let it do its thing and you will be rewarded in a week or two. Plants just don't respond as fast as mammals so be patient.

If I remember correctly, it was suggested that you slip pot that tree from its current broken pot into a new one...did you do that?

Maybe it needs water

Boungainvilleas are super nice! I brought mine to Virginia from Florida and one of them did go into a mild shock. It dropped all frowers (but not leaves). It took it a month to flower again. I was under the impression that they liked kind of dry soil (watering every 3 days) but that led it to drop some leaves. Now i water almost every day and they have not stopped flowering.
