I use petroluem jelly, because I find it to be easy to apply (soft), waterproof and cheap. What does everybody else think of using it to seal branch wounds?

basically then, wound sealent isnt needed, as it would be fine on its own without the paste?
im such a novice haha this is why i approach this forum though, only way to learn is to try yourself and to ask others of your own mistakes. sorry if the initial question seemed a little trivial thanks for all your replies, everyones oppinions are always appriciated |

Wound sealant threads are much like soil recipe threads: passions are stoked!
This is one place I would tend to disagree with Mark, with a caveat: If you are leaving a stub to dry out, to be carved later, I would not use the paste. After carving, if the wound is going to be left as a feature, I would not use cut paste. Most other times for larger wounds, I would. Many times on a larger wound such as on a pine, I will use the sealant around the edge. When the cut edges start to cicatrize, it will pop off. I would never use the sticky stuff to seal a wound, after hard, bitter experience trying to get it off. It is grafting sealer. |
