hello,
I have a mountain maple bonsai in which I just cut back twiggy growth and all. I then cut off about 40% of the leaves (they were all big compared to the others) and I also have a small mealy bug problem. I sprayed them with ortho, hopefully they won't come back, and from that came sooty mold. I also have this black fungus, I don't know if it is sooty mold on a branch where some wire cut into the branch. It didn't seem to effect the leaves on that branch before the sun scorch. So to top it off, I thought I gave the tree enough shade, aparently not, since all the leaves turned brown and died off. Now I have it in a complete shady spot, and I am worried about it's health. Will this tree come back in full leaf? Will sun scorch really kill this tree?

Can you fill in you profile so we can see where you are in the world. This will help diagnosing the problems.

Can you post some photos of the problem tree?

Maples needs to have filtered light, and usually sun is not the big issue but winds drying out the leaves. If this is the case they will usually grow a new canopy after the hottest wether is over.
