Insulted? No, I'm honored. I didn't make Eagle, just Life, then I got kicked out of Troop 345 (seriously). Go figure. Even used to be a Scoutmaster for a while (Troop 43).

My life revolves around paying bills and taxes. You're all deluding yourself if you think yours is anything different. ;P (If you're rich I don't wanna hear about it)

Bonsai, is my attempt to escape all that bullsh!t.

Not very eloquent, but to the point.

(Now I'm gonna go back and read the whole thread)

I feel sorry for you. I have to pay bills and pay taxes - and no, I'm not rich - but my life does NOT revolve around that. My career is a means to a life, and money is required to have that. Therein lies the end of that. It will not be reversed in priority. I'm not "deluded" in thought or what life is, and no matter what you may think, I will remain optimistic about it. Life can be tough at times, but it's better than the alternative.

I'm glad you find an "escape" in bonsai though.

I always forget how poorly my sarcastic wit translates through plain text.
The little smiley thingy ;P (semi-colon P) is a wink which implies a joke or attempt at wit, the P is a raspberry, (tongue stuck out) which implies just that.
Methinks you took my post a bit too seriously. Please don't feel sorry for me, there are others in far greater need.

If you could however muster up a pessimistic view of the state of things, what would it be? I find these views often allow you to get to know a person better.

As for your list, and in all seriousness,

1. God - wish I was able to believe, I'm sure "Faith" that things will get better makes life easier. (I personally put God and religion up there with "the world is flat", everyone used to believe that too). That being said, I fully subscribe to the "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." 2. Family - that's my #1. So we're not far off.
3. Country - You're in the U.S., I'm in Canada. I'm completely disgusted with direction both countries are headed. I don't feel represented by my representatives. I feel paying taxes is a bad thing to do anymore. Would I defend our borders from an invading force? ABSOLUTELY! I am curious what positives you see in the direction your country is headed. How do you feel about extraordinary rendition? (they boil people in Syria)
4. Me. - I feel it should be above country and I believe so did your founding fathers. This is where I'm at (But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security)
5. Everything else...sure why not? It's not like I have a lot of free time to fill.

So here's my list.
0. Do unto others...
1. Family
2. Me
3. Country
4. Everything else

Stray77,

There is a lot to discuss there. Of course, this being a bonsai site, I need to temper what I say and remember it isn't a forum to convert non-believers, or discuss anarchy.

Okay, I won't feel sorry for you. I still wish you the best.

Let's see....Bonsai, remodeling a house, clearing the land and building gardens, woodworking, guitar, consulting company outside the 8-5, 27 year job (3 to go!!!)

And of course, most importantly, the woman I love.

The funny thing about bonsai is as I am clearing the land and pruning the trees on the property it's.....that bar branch has to go, that grouping of trees is too complex so I'll take a few down, that crossing branch is horrible, I need to shape that one into, the hawthorn is now a literati, ............you see the point.

I'm just saying that with bonsai, it doesn't rule my life, but the world around me changed.

Deacon

John:
I thank you for your comment,
"Carl, everytime I see your avatar I wonder what you were thinking when that picture was taken. It looks like you were enjoying the moment."

Frankly, I am always enjoying myself, even when I did that self-portrait with a self-timer on my digital! It so happens that Ron Martin is the owner of the tree in that Avatar, so you see you joined us at the hip and didn't realize it!!!

My hobby is bonsai, my work is bonsai, my life is full of bonsai. Guess that I am addicted.
Not all that bad of an addiction. It harms no one, keeps me busy and is for the most part a politically correct thing to do. Environmentally safe as well.
I guess bonsai does rule my life. Worse things could rule it though.
Besides the wife likes me putzing around in the back yard. She can keep an eye on me there ;o)
