bullsai: A tree or trees which are very precisely styled; the work of a true master; a tree which 'hits the mark'. Often confused with bullshai.
bullshai: A tree or trees which are styled by one whose ego is greater than their aesthetic ability; a crap tree, often proclaimed to be bullsai. Peace. FlyBri. Last edited by FlyBri : 13-Mar-2005 at 06:47 PM. |

Certainly, if I had the money to invest in finished bonsai, I would do so immediately. Although I do not have much money currently, I do have a lot time on my hands to produce these snobsai myself. I believe Ian may have read my profile when he saw that a member was 15.

dbz12fan,
That's the irony of life...when you're young and have plenty of time, you simply don't have the money to do the things you want. When you're older, and finally have the money, you don't have the time. Running out of time...one day at a time (and STILL poor!), John |

That is so true. I try to make the best with what I have, though. Instead of buying a finished tree for $10,000, I will invest $500+ or - in quality bonsai material that will become valued at $10,000 within a fairly short amount of time. Charles |

I think Kokufu-ten and Sakufu-ten are different in that respect. If I remember what was related to me by Kathy Shaner (and I may have it backwards or completely wrong) one of those two exhibitions, I think it is Kokufu-ten) the trees are owned by amateurs. Of course this doesn't discount the influence of acknowledged professionals in preparing and styling those trees.
Moreover: Bonsai Today #31 has an article about Masahiko Kimura and Masahiro Tokuo (Directory of Kindai Shuppan / Contemporary Bonsai) preparing a huge white pine for exhibit at Kokufu-ten. The inset on page 33 shows Tokuo receiving the award, with Kimura conspicuously absent. Regards, Matt |

being completly hamfisted, with a styling score of about 1,(out of 10),most of my trees are either bought,semi-styled by others,or hoping i get artistacly gifted in the near future(unlikely) to do something with the stuff ive collected,im quite happy to work on my trees that others have worked on.
