I would buy a snobsai now, and love it, and look at it every day. Not just to "have something and you don't" but because if it's for sale, then it needs a home. Perhaps its previous owner can no longer take care of it, or perhaps the person who spent years styling it has to make a living. Paying them for their knowledge is an honorable thing.
Even a lesser tree, that has had years of styling, is worthwhile to a newbie. The previous owner may have outgrown the tree, or interest in that species, or moved and cannot take the tree with them. Or even has too many trees! Taking the tree, learning from it, growing with it, all are part of the whole. But to have a true masterpiece....aaaah! That would be glorious! That would be worth having a stand, and a tokonoma, and a scroll....! Unlike my little young trees, displaying them in such a way would just look silly. Why should we have to wait for many years to be able to enjoy the next step? There is nothing wrong with buying a wonderful tree (unless you are too inexperienced to care for it) and continuing the legacy. After all, most of our trees can and should outlive us anyway. Better that they go to good homes than be sold at a garage sale by our children or our landlords! Joanie |

Chainsai - Bonsai in a high crime area
Armysai - Any bonsai with a flat top Airsai - Bonsai belonging to anyone who has not yet shown them. Funsai - Bonsai grown only for fun without an end result in mind. Vansai - Sold only by one man in a van who travels a lot. Seriously, I do like the snobsai.... Will |

"SeeSawsai - Bonsai styled by a person who can't make up their mind as to whither they do bonsai for a hobby or for art."
Or maybe they/we just tire of the whole debate... No need to pick sides. Once again we are all here to grow bonsai and to learn. If we did not want to learn, whether it be in the name of artistry or in the name of keeping our trees alive, we would not be here. Newt |
