About once a year I have occassion to drive past this tree. This last trip I had my camera. The lighting was poor, apologies for the low quality. It is a very big oak, done in the 'bunjin' style by Mother Nature. Mike Page, I hope you see it, because I think of you every time I see the tree.

I love the first one (in post #217), but the two remaining ones strike me as topiary and not as inspirational. They are beautiful, and well maintained, but they lead me to believe that "naturalistic style" is really a philosophy I have settled into with bonsai.

I think they hark back to the original chinese style of bonsai.

Agreed. It's beautiful, no question, but I just don't care for trees that scream, "I've had a human work on me!!!" Just a personal opinion when it comes to bonsai. Too neat and manicured just "takes away" some appeal for me.

I have to agree totally. I don't like formal bonsai,i like mine to look rugged, harried by mother nature.
