Will,
Great points. When I give criticism I like to give it the same way that I like to receive it. I would like to think that folks would give it straight forward to me. I like the way that Walter Pall goes about giving his critique and thoughts. He doesn't hold back, tells it like it is, and backs up what he says. I wish others would follow in his lead! Here's a quote from Mr. Pall from another thread Quote:
I for one DO find it refreshing. As for the reputation system... Honestly I forget to do it most of the time. Although I am gonna hit you with some positive points Will. That my friend is for speaking your mind, and articulating your thoughts into an intelligent essay. Thank you! Adam |

Very good observation Attila. I have noticed that a few instigators have disabled their rep system, but never really wondered about it until now. Good points! Will |

Well I did disable mine. Just got tired of the darn thing. Figured if anyone wanted to say something (good or bad)they could do so up front and in the open.
Turning it off is no big deal. It is after all an option open to those that want to. That is why it is called an option |

This site is so big I had not even realized what it was untill recently. I have yet to use it.
This is a great site and I have given up on the disney land folks, the ads are just taking to much time to load, it would be one thing if they were bonsai related. There seems to be more nagativity over there too. How do people find it annoying? So far it is just a small set of scales on the left. Does it flash at you if you have negative feedback? I try to stay positive and not say anything if I do not have anything nice/constructive to say. Newt |

Newt, hi.
I don't know if it does anything special when you get a negative point, as I haven't got any yet. Which kinda proves the system doesn't work I only end up finding out what's going on when I go to my User CP to play with my avatar.Welcome. Fish. |

My only sugestion to the rep system would be that if one chooses to shut it off, they should also be unable to give rep points. .

Well, if one chooses not to participate and turns it off, then it should really be turned off.
Shutting it off and continuing to use it to give rep points is kinda hypocritical, wouldn't you say? Will |

Like momma used to say, "If you can't take it, don't dish it out." Course, momma also used to say "Don't eat, that, it's still pink in the middle!" (Don't go there, pootsie!) I just think that if you have enough of a problem with anonymous, good/bad points enough to disable your own, it is a bit hypocritical to continue to give that type of critique to others. Like you said, do it in the open instead. Stick to your guns. People may not like you for it, but they will respect you for standing on your principles. Frog |
