Carl, nice and helpful to newbies? Alright, who are you guys and what have you done with the real members here?
Lol, I have to admit that when I first came here Carl knocked me down, but like a true brawler, he helped me up and asked if I was ready for more. Okay now that we're done petting the bird.... Go wash your hands. Will |

Talk about assumptions! I never said that I or newbies "or anyone else" was insulted. It's my opinion that people new to bonsai might be put off by debates over which of us is the more "legit" practitioner based on the criteria discussed; such as, how many articles one has published, or who is in business. I'm pretty sure that the beginning question about which magazine is the most useful is a topic that newbies would be interested in. Therefore, I am NOT convinced that this is a thread that is for veterans only and not amateurs. The amateur lurker might very well be sitting in front of the monitor thinking; "Gees, I just have this tree I got for an early Christmas present, and wanted to find out where I could get the best information on it!" |

I just wanted to add here that I really appreciate the comments that everyone has put on here. If you all were not honest, I would not be able to pick which magazines are best for me to spend my $$$ on. And on my salary I need to pick carefully as I cannot just subscribe to any and all of them. So I really appreciate it!
And I want to add that I am a newbie here on the site, and while I am not experienced in bonsai as others here, I have been doing it for about 4 years now and I am not ignorant to issues of Bonsai. With that said, I have not gotten any ill attitudes from anyone. Will and I have had a GREAT discussion in the chat room along with Grampz, Orn, Carl and others regarding Science and Art. And I learned some great stuff. Did I take some ribbing regarding my "Timeshare Computer"...yep. But am I offended? Nope. Becasue I don't think it was meant in a mean-spirited way. I am new, I need to earn respect. I can honestly say that I have had a warm welcome, very friendly PM's, advice on my indoor greenhouse I am building, great chat conversations where I learn rather than just waste braincells, and encouragement to develop myself as a bonsai artist/technician (that was for you Will!). Great site everyone. We are passionate about our Bonsai...the way it should be. If people don't like the attitude of someone, don't respond. It is really that simple. Thanks for having a place like this for me to come to! Keep up the good work! Hope that all makes sense, Jeffrey |
