Tokonoma Bonsai - Review

Tokonoma Bonsai - Review

Those of you that live near Clinton Township, Michigan are probably familiar with the Tropical Treasures store on Gratiot just south of 15 Mile Road. Although their selection of tropical fish and pond supplies is quite vast, they also have another treasure tucked inside of the building.

Tokonoma Bonsai is ran by Tom Notebaert who gives classes on bonsai and calligraphy there. The shop carries a wide selection of high end pots as well as some less expensive ones. It also has a good selection of tools, stands, books, and is one of the few shops in the area that also stocks non-tropical bonsai.

Tom is very helpful and often will offer to nurse a tree back to health for his customers. He will give advise freely and the friendly environment makes this shop worth the trip.

For more info you can call Tom directly at 586-791-6595 or stop in anytime.

Didn't know that there were two Tokonoma Bonsai Shops in the US. Oh well. At least he has a good name to use.
Wonder how long he has been using it. )
Might just be worth a call to find out.

Will

I must have started a fad all those years ago ;o)
Hopefully all those other shops are good ones. Hate to see the name tarnished.
At least my logo is registered.

Darn, I never knew you invented the Tokonoma name.

Good luck,

Will

As you once said Ron,

"When trying to find a name for my shop I soon realized that Ron's Bonsai Barn would not work. Neither would Bubba's Bonsai so I used Tokonoma. Sounded more oriental and did work out pretty good.
Maybe one of these days Ron's Bonsai Barn might work. But first I have to become famous so people will associate that with bonsai
Would have used Karate Kid Bonsai but some jerk in Hollywood already used that one !!!"

Good luck with your shop Ron,

Will

Anyhow,

Tokonoma Bonsai in Clinton Township, Michigan is a great place to just sit around and talk bonsai. The supplies are reasonably priced and the instructor is knowledgeable. Tom's a good man and if you get a chance to stop in, it'll be worth your effort.
