Saba Convention

The South African Bonsai convention held their biennial(eh sp?) show this weekend. the guest speaker was Dave De Groot. The event was attended relatively well and some magnificant trees were shown.

The first few pics are african classics. Acacia's, a massive baobab and a Elephant foot.

As you can see South Africans like their apex to be somewhat confused, as you can see on many of these trees, i must say that some of the wiring was absolutely terrifying. Some had such bad wiring that the wire was halfway through the branch it was on. All in all it was a good show with some very nice trees.

Hi Andy,

I agree, the Olive forest is beautifull, but where are the Natal Plums (Carissa's)
Have you pictures of those too, or don't you see them at shows in SA?

Thanks for sharing these insides in bonsai in SA,

Wessel

Some very nice bonsai there, Andy. I particularly like the false olive flat top style, and the beautiful olive forest.

Thanks for sharing...

Pat

Hi Andy, I just found this thread! Thanks for sharing your show with us. It is very nice to see such good bonsai being done in South Africa. I like the flat top trees, and the small literati styled shohins. I think the baobabs would look magnificent if done in a large forest tray with 3-5 really big trees. I can't wait to see something like that. Of course, the acacias are great too. How about rocks and suisekis in South Africa? Do your club shows them too?

Good day!
Si
