Photo Visit to Lodder Bonsai in The Netherlands

More than 100,000 trees. I was there again today for 3 hours. I tried NOT to look at any of the finished trees - otherwise you'll never get to buy anything.
The problem is, after seeing such a the vast quantity and quality of trees - that you geta real inferiority complex about your own trees. I came home and looked at my existing trees and generally felt very insignificant.

yeah i get an inferiority complex even on this site... trunk envy. i still love my trees but i realize how skinny they are, especially when photographing. (i think trees lose ten pounds when you take their picture. )

Thanks for bumping this thread up! I enjoyed seeing it for the first time today. All I can say is "Holy God!". That's a factory and not a nursery!
Are most of the stocks imported? From China and Korea? I can't imagine that there is that much demand for bonsai in the Netherland. A place like that in the USA would go bankrupt in a month.

It's a big commercial operation - supplying bonsai in literally every size and shape. They import from all over the world - many asian countries and even from other European places (for example Pomegranate and Olives from Spain).

They are major suppliers to many other smaller nurseries all over Europe - for example to the bonsai sellers in Amsterdam on the famous tourist flower market on the "Singel". They also supply garden centers etc.

The Netherlands has Europe's largest port (Rotterdam) and has traditionally been the "hub" of market gardening supplies for Europe. Additionally we have the worlds largest flower auctions handling 55% of all world trade in floweres and plants. These factors all add up.

What seems to have exploded over the years I've been visiting is the number of very large garden trees they now sell - these have become really popular. When I was at the nursery last Thursday I would estimate I saw 70-80 HUGE sculpted trees outside in HUGE pots (500litre pots) and then in the > €10K price range (>$15,500). I'll be posting more photos soon (I took another 180 photos so they take some processing :-)

I want one of those Red Maples in the pics!

I couldn't get their English site to work for some reason. Dont suppose you happen to know how much do the smaller Red Maples sell for?

Their whole site was down the other day due to "bandwidth" problems...I nearly had to pick up the phone the other day but fought the urge. I've emailed them to let them know of the problem.

The red maples are various prices - I've bought one myself and took 160 photos when I went there the other day. Here's a selection of photos with prices :-)
