Geodude, The guy responsible for chairing the exhibit actually found a book on bonsai display on podiums. He actually drove to three or four heavily bonsai'ed cities to get this right. The best concensus is that when bonsai are diplayed on piers, podiums or the like, they are not used with stands. It is not that the hicks from the central valley do not have them, it was that they should not be used in this display.

I use the word hick in a nice way, since that was the perception that he did not want to give in this venue. That is why he went out of his way to get it right. If I had been the chairman, I think I would have had royal blue table runners made for each podium. That way they would have had something a little richer under the tree.

Some of the podiums were a little small for the pots and some were fairly deep. We were given permission by the Fresno Arts Center to use their display podiums for this event. I think in general the show was a huge succes, and we recieved many great comments. This did save a lot of money and we thank FAC for the use of their display stands.

Interesting, Al... Thanks for the info.
Were there any "formal" displays other than the tokonoma display?
