GSBF convention 2001
I went for just the day. I came down with a head cold on Fri. and so just went for the day and rested Sun. I will post the tree pics on new threads so that you can comment on each. This is a forest planting of over 75 foemina junipers to commemerate the WTC victims in N.Y. The planting will be donated to the National Arboretum after the planting stabilizes. I'm smiling, but sick. The forest is at Kimura Bonsai Nursery and is the work of Robert Pressler. The nursery was just down the street from the convention.

Conv. trees
This is a tree by Harry Hirao. I think its a Cal. juniper, but its hard to tell because of the foilage. Displayed with Eel river stone. Nice display.

Conv. 2001 trees II
This is a forest planting on a natural stone slab. Foemina junipers, with accent plant of blood grass. Ted Matson has done a great job of getting all those trees planted so close together. Ted was also a workshop Host working on a foemina juniper about 4 inches accross at the base. I did not get a pic... sorry.

This is a tree by Ernie Kuo. ernie has trained in Japan and is considered to be a bonsai master. His work shows it. I like the live vein going up the front of the trunk. Great stand and accent plant. Ernie knows how to do it right.

This is a tree by Kaz Yoneda. It is Cal. juniper. It almost looks like a raft style plant. I could not find Kaz to find out some details.

This is a tree by Al Nelson. I included this tree because all the elements of a nice display are here. Very simple stand and nice suiseki on plinths. Works for me!!

This is a ficus by Denny Roche. This has to be the most extraordinary nebari I have ever seen. First class tree, and nice accent plant.
