Easter Bonsai Event Nottingham (UK)
One of Harry Tomlinson's annual events.
Vaslav Novak from the Czech Repulic was the guest speaker and he did a full day demo on initial styling of raw nursery stock every day for the full four days. The material was selected from leftover workshop material, so as not to supply him with pre trained stock and to give him a challenge (he loves it!  ).Due to the bad weather all the demos had to take place in the beer tent so please excuse the poor lighting and background (handy for the bar though  )For the benefit of the beginners and newcomers in the audience, Vaslav gave details about the species, how and where this nursery material was grown and the conditions it will need to develop further. He also made it clear that the objective was not to produce an instant bonsai, but to prepare raw stock so that it can be developed in to a bonsai over the next 5 to 10 years. As usual all the demos were accompanied by Vaslav singing Czech songs, Harry's anecdotes, and comments like " do I get this cheaper now that you cut most of it off" and "off course, you can have the top half for only half price" .Anyway, heres the photo's that came out. First one is a pinus silvestris. Imported stock from Holland for workshops held at Greenwood Gardens last year.

Final shape. The tree will now be allowed to rest and grow for at least two years before further styling.

Hinoki Cypress. Chameocyparis obtusa nana gracilis. Again imported from Holland for workshops last year.
