Bonsai Learning Center Exihibit & Open House

I visited the Bonsai Learning Center in Charlotte North Carolina today to attend the Open House and view the Exihibit consisting of material from students and friends of the Bonsai Learning Center. It was an impressive display and Randy Clark's Bonsai Learning Center was a delight. A demonstration on Black Pine was given in the morning by Steve Pilacik from Matsu Momiji Bonsai Nursery and another demonstration was given by Brussel Martin on White Pine in the afternoon. Mr. Pilacik's demonstration focused mainly on caring for Black Pine and pruning techniques. Mr. Martin styled a White Pine demonstrating basic styling techniques from pruning to wiring the White Pine.

I'm relatively new to Bonsai and today was very inspirational. I was very excited to learn that I will be fortunate enough to have some excellent resources just a few hours away. The trees on display at the BLC speak for themselves.

About the Exhibit:
"The Bonsai on display in this exhibit represent works created by students and friends of the BLC over the past decade. The Bonsai Learning Center is exceptionally proud to present this exhibition for your consideration and hope that the trees displayed here will serve to inspire an even more active involvement for you with this most ancient of all art forms."

There were quite a few other trees in the exhibit as well but I didn't get images of all of them. I will start another thread under the students of Bonsai forum and post images of the demonstrations. If anyone is interested I have some more image of some of Randy Clark's collection at the BLC...

Like this Ficus and the water tables.

I'm interested, the water table display is beautiful. If I ever get back up to North Carolina the BLC and a visit with Randy is at the top of my list. Is the center open daily or just for demos and classes and such?

The BLC's website is http://www.bonsailearningcenter.com. They have a gallery of images that show better than my images the work of Randy Clark and others at the BLC. I believe they are open from 10:00am-5:00pm Thurs-Sat. and other times by appointment. If you're passing through the Charlotte area it is definitely a place you should visit. They have an excellent bonsai store there as well and a great selection of pots. I don't mean to turn this into an advertisement for the BLC, but for those of us in or around the Charlotte NC area it is truly a great Bonsai resource. Just drop by and Randy will be happy to share his collection and vast knowledge of the art. His diverse collection is definite proof of his experience and skill.

I really like the idea of a "friends of" invitational show. and, Randys nice place is a great place for it. I need to visit there sometime. I like many aspects of the garden/studio layout.

Mark, nope not my pot.( I had to check once I saw the post !) I don't recall Steve ever buying a pot from me at a show.
but, I THINK I can take a good stab at who made it since I look at sooooo many pots. I'd say Bob Galick , also an Ohio potter ( who studied bonsai years ago with the same teacher I was/did BTW) . The banches on edge and scoring around edge and color look familiar. I think I remember Bob once mentioning selling some pots to Randy a few years back.

Man that ficus in pic #37799...I think I own her twin sister!!
Regards,
Dale
