Great Day
I'd like to share a few photos from a collecting trip made today. It started cold and rainy but turned into a bluebird day in the mid fifties...perfect day for a paddle into the marsh. Hope you enjoy the the pics.
First is a typical view.

Next is a nice example of the massive bases on some of these cypress. It's approx. 12 feet across.

The last two are of an incredible tree approx. 10 feet tall. Be sure to note the great example of the flat top. Nature does it best.

Nice pictures David.
I live in South LA also and I love to look at bald cypress. they have no basic form, every one has its own unique trait about it. I've been itchen to go down the bayou and see what I can find. Seeing these pictures just reminded me how buityfull it is to be out there amongst some of the giants that you see along the old bayous. There is an old dead swamp near here that I go to on an ATV. I found this one stump that I could stand inside of. It has been dead for about 80 years. Its walls are about 3 inches thick and solid like fresh wood. The whole trunk is about 5 feet wide. I have no point except for Thanks for the picks and inspiration David.

Whidn, Get out there. It's still a bit early but I've got the itch and the weather's fine, the grass is down, and the mosquitos and vipers are gone for awhile. Good luck.

David, I was planning on waiting until March to start collecting. Is this too early for our climate?
